A life with Jesus

JESUS IS YOUR HOPE! We believe there is no better life to live than a life that includes Jesus. The Bible clearly states that we all fall short of salvation in our own efforts and we all need a SAVIOR! Through the death and resurrection of Jesus we can now have a personal relationship with Him!

Accepting Jesus

The Apostle Paul wrote, If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.'” (Romans 10:9-10)

Accepting Jesus isn’t a matter of some long, wordy, eloquent prayer. It’s as simple as believing and saying, “Jesus, I believe you are Lord!” That’s it!

We are so excited for those who have made a decision to follow Jesus Christ and make Him the Lord and Savior of your life!  As new believers, many people at Antioch are in this same category, and the question we hear most often from you is, “What do we do next?”  Being a Christian begins with a decision, but ultimately ends with a desire to be a “disciple” of Christ.  If you are a new believer, below are a few things that can help you to turn this one time decision in a life-time success!

Where do I begin?

There are a few important things to note when beginning to live a life with Jesus.

First, you are not meant to do it alone. It is our hope that you find a place of connection at a local church. We would love for that to be Antioch and are hear to assist you on your new journey.

Second, get familiar with the Bible. It can be pretty intimidating at first but the Bible is full of power truth and wisdom that will help you grow.

Third, begin to pray. Praying is simply talking to God as if He were standing right nest to you. When you pray begin by thanking God for saving you and forgiving all of your sins. Then talk to Him about your life, needs, needs of others and whatever else is on your mind.

How to read the Bible.

As mentioned before the Bible can seem a little intimidating at first. It’s full of some many historical events and most are not printed in chronological order. None the less the Bible is full of life changing truths!

Begin in the book of John, found in the New Testament. This particular book is written by a man named John who personally spent many years with Jesus. The events recorded by John are all focused around the day to day life of Jesus and will help you gain an understanding of how He lived and interacted with people.

How do I pray?
Prayer is simply talking to God. So, talk to Him as you would any other friend. Discuss your day. Talk about the things you’re thankful for. Ask Him to help you continue on your life with Jesus. Voice your needs and requests. Trust us, you can’t really mess this up!

When should I pray?
Anytime! For some people, prayer times take place in the morning or evening, but you can choose a time which is best for you. It helps to be somewhere quiet, where you can have some time for yourself.

Do I have to kneel?
Not unless you want to. Kneeling is a traditional posture for penitence and standing for praise, but you can pray anywhere – walking, standing, sitting, whatever feels comfortable.

What else do I need to know?
It’s okay to be creative – use music, go to a park, read from the Bible, anything to help you focus.

What if I miss a prayer time?
Prayer is a discipline – it can be difficult at times, just like keeping fit, being on a diet, or keeping weeds down in the garden! Little and often is best, but don’t give up! No prayer, however inadequate you may feel it to be, is ever wasted or of no value.
How can I learn more?
In the book of Matthew, Jesus is tested by a Pharisee who asks Him this question, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

In Jesus’ own words, loving God is one of the two greatest commandments. This is, therefore, one of the primary reasons that we exist at Antioch and one of the most important things that we teach. As a local church, or family of believers, we love God. We teach and encourage our church family members to do the same in their individual lives.

There are many ways that someone can express their love for the Lord. We believe it is most clearly expressed through obedience to, and worship of, Him. Obedience and worship happens both individually and together as a church family. Our Sunday morning worship services include both a time of corporate worship and a time of teaching from the Bible, God’s Word.

Further ways of expressing our love for the Lord include serving others in the local church, tithing and giving offerings, and sharing the Good News of Jesus with those that God places in our path.

While these are ways of outwardly expressing our love for the Lord, we also acknowledge that love for the Lord is first and foremost an issue of the heart.
What is water baptism and why is it important?

Baptism is a public profession of faith. It’s a way to show that you’ve accepted Christ. In the same way a wedding ring is used as a symbol of a deep and lasting commitment to a spouse, baptism is a symbol of a deep and lasting relationship with God.

Why be water baptized?

  • Because you want to follow Christ’s example. (Mark 1:9)
  • Because Christ commanded it. (Matt. 28:19-20)
  • Because it shows you are a believer. (Acts 18:8)
  • Because obeying Christ’s command shows you know Him. (1 John 2:3)
